About TRIANGULUM
Triangulum is a photography collective founded by E.S.L. Chen, Jason Quibilan and Veejay Villafranca. The trio has worked together on several photography projects, including presentations for past editions of Art Fair Philippines and the Fotomoto festivals. The name Triangulum references a constellation that forms a triangle where a galaxy with a black hole can be spotted. It is one of the most distant objects that the naked eye can see without aid. The name can also allude to the projection of a camera obscura which is traditionally illustrated using a triangle figure. The central point of the camera obscura is the black hole (which light cannot escape). It represents respective points of view as individuals. For Art Fair Philippines 2023, the notion of “Triangulum” will also serve as the exhibit theme. Most of the works would involve abstraction and other conceptual approaches, akin to slicing the projection into parts and playing with them. The layering of ideas, images and concepts becomes the collective’s identity.
